UST-AMV College of Accountancy Dean Patricia M. Empleo, PhD, College Secretary Christine C. Sta. Maria, MBA, and faculty member Fermin Antonio D.R. Yabut benchmarked with three leading business schools in Singapore from October 24 to 26, 2016, namely SP Jain School of Global Management, SIM University鈥檚 School of Business and National University of Singapore – Business School.
Prior to the benchmarking, a reception for the delegates was hosted by Minister and Consul General of the Philippine Embassy in Singapore Hon. Victorio M. Dimagiba, Jr., who facilitated a discussion on the Filipino and Singaporean educational systems.
After the reception, the group benchmarked with SP Jain School of Global Management鈥檚 MBA Program. SP Jain鈥檚 tri-country educational model made it one of the youngest institutions in the Top 100 business schools across the globe. Also, Dean Empleo was named research adviser (represented the industry) for one of SP Jain鈥檚 graduate students.
Delegates also benchmarked with SIM University鈥檚 accounting program. SIM University鈥檚 accounting and business programs are offered on a flexible schedule to allow undergraduate students to work and study at the same time.
Another top university that was visited was the National University of Singapore (NUS). A particular focus was given to the academic structure of NUS鈥檚 accountancy program, specifically on its 鈥渂readth and depth.鈥�
Meanwhile, CPA Australia鈥檚 Singapore Office hosted a business meeting with the UST delegation. In line with the AMV-Accountancy鈥檚 internalization efforts, discussions were conducted for a possible equivalency of foundation courses taken by accountancy and management accounting students in the undergraduate such as economics and markets, financial accounting and reporting and management accounting. If granted with equivalency, Thomasian candidates will only need to pass the professional subjects in the CPA Program and obtain the necessary industry experience to become a member of CPA Australia, a leading global associations of accountants with a membership of 115,000 accountants working in 118 countries (https://www.cpaaustralia.com.au/about-us).
Technical sessions on International Financial Reporting Standards, Accounting Conservatism and the Singapore Qualification Programme were also attended by the delegates.
