In the June 2024 Architect Licensure Exams, the ̽��ѡ was named the second top-performing school after producing 143 Thomasian Architects and notching an 88.82% passing rate.

Meanwhile, two Thomasians secured places in the topnotchers list. Jarvis Cal Ortiz ranked 6th with his 82.10% score, while Basilio Carolino logged an 81.70% personal rating at #8.

The national passing rate was 62.14%.

Arki students rediscover spaces in UST in Summer School

Selected BS-Architecture students participated in the College of Architecture’s inaugural Summer School program on June 10, 2024, at the Beato Angelico Building Audio-Visual Room.

University of Reading, UK’s Architect Graham F. Thompson guided the participating students in the said program, sharing his expertise, projects, and some tidbits of experience he reaped in his travels worldwide.

The students were tasked to find mundane spaces in the campus that could be worked with and then bring the best of it through a mobile or static architectural device/intervention.

Afterward, the students engaged in discourses where they exchanged ideas and notes that would help them refine their design/intervention.

Thompson also shared a primer with the students and encouraged them to make a design that would stand out and speak by itself.

“Architecture is all about experiences. It is all about different experiences that happen maybe every week or maybe a few months. It is really built on you as people,” Thompson said.

Talking about how the project came to fruition, College of Architecture Dean Ar. Rodolfo P. Ventura, MSArch, expressed that he has always envisioned honing BS-Architecture students, helping them utilize their full potential, and equipping them with the necessary knowledge to create their very own designs that will bring pride to the University.

The Summer School will run until June 14, 2024. The final result will be deployed, photographed, and filmed within its context.

Architecture students named Grand Winners in WORLDBEX ideas and design competition

On March 17, 2024, students from the College of Architecture, namely, Juan Christian R. Geronimo, Josearia O. Argayoso, Alvin Jezer M. Aquino, Shanea Xyzella A. Lim, and Inca G. Garrido, collectively known as Team Glaga Designs, were declared the Grand Winner of this year’s WORLDBEX Projeto Ideas and Design Competition for their entry “Laudex.” The award was conferred in the SMX Convention Center Manila, Pasay City.

In a post by WORLDBEX, the organizers hailed the team’s entry as “a testament to how interactive architecture should be, bridging technology and architecture to create a dynamic and flexible environment enjoyed by many.”

UST is sole top performing school in January 2024 architecture boards, 5 among top passers

The ̽��ѡ emerged as the Sole Top Performing School in the January 2024 Licensure Examinations for Architects, with 110 graduates logging an 82.09% passing rate for UST. This is higher than the 61.68% national passing rate.

The new Thomasian architects were led by the following graduates who landed in the ten highest places:

UST brings home 8 awards from PACUCOA, remains country’s top accredited university

The ̽��ѡ was hailed as the university with the most accredited programs in the country and in the National Capital Region by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), during its 50th anniversary celebration on December 1, 2023 (Friday).

Apart from the two distinctions, UST was also recognized for having the most number of Level IV accredited programs in the country. Level IV is the highest rating a program can get. Programs enjoying this status “have been highly respected as very high academic programs in the Philippines and with prestige and authority comparable to similar programs in excellent foreign universities,” according to PACUCOA.

Meanwhile, four bachelor’s programs were also recognized for producing topnotchers in recent Professional Regulation Commission licensure exams, namely, BS Medical Technology, BS Accountancy, BS Nutrition and Dietetics, and BS Architecture.

UST also won an award for the community outreach/extension program contest. The College of Science bagged Second Prize for “CCHEERS to Laudato si: Care for our Common ̽��ѡ through Environmental Expedition Integrating the role of Service-Learning.”

Thomasian professors were also recognized by PACUCOA. Graduate School academic staff Lucila O. Bance, PhD was named Outstanding Accreditor, while Dean Emeritus Carmen Kanapi, PhD received a Posthumous Award for Service. Service awards were also received by Graduate School academic staff Belen Tangco, PhD (Accrediting Team Chairman), as well as Faculty of Pharmacy officials Aleth Therese L. Dacanay, PhD, Frieda Z. Hapan, PhD, and Edilberto P. Manahan, PhD.

UST pays tribute to 44 academic staff retirees of AY 2022-2023

On July 25, 2023, the ̽��ѡ feted forty-three (43) teaching and non-teaching academic staff who either reached the mandatory retirement age of 65 years old or availed of optional retirement through a Testimonial. A life of great service

In his homily, fr. Tiong, on the occasion of the Feast of St. James the Apostle, thanked the retirees for their many years of service, “one of the central themes of the day’s Gospel.” “This [gratitude] is really something that comes from the heart of the University…because…you have graced the University by your presence, by your very person,” fr. Tiong said in his homily.

During the testimonial, Prof. Peralta lauded the retirees for molding their students’ character and empowering them to contribute positive changes in the world through education. “As you step into the next chapter of your lives in retirement, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all of you for selflessly dedicating yourselves to molding young minds, motivating discouraged hearts, and uplifting dampened spirits that allowed Thomasian students, alumni, and university staff reach what they are today,” Peralta said.

In his message, fr. Ang stated that seasoned teachers have fulfilled their roles when students finally develop their own moral compass to guide them in life and extend their learnings beyond the classroom, as well as getting remembered for acknowledging and treating them well. “They will remember how well you treated them, how they felt valued and cared for, and how you recognized their unique gifts and talents,” fr. Ang said.

Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Josefin de Alban, Jr. delivered his acceptance speech on behalf of the retirees, emphasizing that the University they served for years will always be their home. “Retiring faculty members shall never leave UST. We shall never forget,” de Alban said. “UST is our home and we always wanted to be in this beloved Pontifical University whenever we are away from her,” he added.

6 Arki alumni lead June 2023 Arch’t boards, UST is #3

Six BS Architecture alumni snagged rankings in the June 2023 Licensure Examination For Architects (LEA), by the Professional Regulation Commission.

Nadine Anne Laurente Bagon landed on the third place with her 84.60% rating, followed by Kenneth Christopher Dy on the 4th place with his 84.10% score. On the 8th place, Marion Jeuss Colis Garcia notched an 83.40% rating. Rochelle Mae Ko Ong tallied an 83.10% rating to secure the 9th highest rating. Lastly, Keziah Salazar Jose and Lemuel Kim Beltran Rollon shared the 10th highest rating with their 82.90% score.

Meanwhile, the University is the 3rd top performing school after logging an 87.82% passing rate and producing 173 new Thomasian Architects.

Aratan, Pinaroc lead 11new Thomasian architects in April 2023 off-season board exams

Eleven new Thomasian architects were led by topnotchers Anngela Aratan (#2 – 81.40%) and Erik Julius R. Pinaroc (#4 – 80.20%). The Special Licensure Exams for Architects, administered abroad in April 2023, saw a 64.17% national passing rate. Meanwhile, the BS Architecture alumni of UST scored a perfect 100% passing rate.

In an announcement released by the Professional Regulation Commission, Bhing Bhing Panagsagan Ko aced this year’s January 2023 Architecture licensure exams, earning the top rank after posting an 84.50% rating.

At rank #3, Aliana Jasmine Alcantara Cadiang tallied an 83.30% personal rating.

Thomasians bag top award at International Architecture Competition on rebuilding Siargao

UST College of Architecture students Zion Enrico Licup, Janna Muriel Balasbas, Van Hexel Macalawa, and their mentor Ar. Juan Carlos Eugene Soler won the Urban Intervention category for the international architectural design competition “Rebuilding Siargao”, an international design competition aimed to rehabilitate the island. The winners were announced online last August 17, 2022.

The island of Siargao was devastated by Typhoon Odette, with international name Super Typhoon Rai, on December 16, 2021. With the intention to rehabilitate the island, the non-governmental organization (NGO) Lokal Lab, in partnership with Archstorming, conducts projects to build back the community, which includes the design competition. The said competition called for two separate proposals: the reconstruction of a local community center and an urban intervention that would regenerate the island’s rural towns. The winning competition entries will be constructed by the Lokal Lab.

The group of Licup proposed their winning entry “Timba at Tabo”, a communal laundry space, for the urban intervention project. It is a series of rainwater collection tanks that would address the sanitation needs of the community, particularly on laundry. It would address water problem supply due to groundwater saline intrusion and water contamination. Furthermore, the project would help provide clean water for proper hygiene and sanitation that are identified to help combat the spread of COVID-19.
