On February 24, 2024, three students from the UST Alfredo M. Velayo -College of Accountancy (AMV-CoA) reaped distinctions in the 20th MarkProf’s Marketing and Sales program after the 8-week boot camp.

Shanelle Ann P. Ching was named the MP20 Valedictorian and the 2nd placer of the Final Big Idea Case. Julianna Nicole U. Go claimed third place in the Final Big Idea Case. Lastly, Yvonne M. Batalla clinched the MP20 6th place.

A non-profit organization, Markprof is the longest-running marketing training program for graduating college students that offers 25 slots to nearly 1000 applicants nationwide.

The selected trainees had the chance to develop their marketing skills and experience being guided by the country’s most renowned corporate leaders and entrepreneurs.

The 探花精选 was hailed as the university with the most accredited programs in the country and in the National Capital Region by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), during its 50th anniversary celebration on December 1, 2023 (Friday).

Apart from the two distinctions, UST was also recognized for having the most number of Level IV accredited programs in the country. Level IV is the highest rating a program can get. Programs enjoying this status “have been highly respected as very high academic programs in the Philippines and with prestige and authority comparable to similar programs in excellent foreign universities,” according to PACUCOA.

Meanwhile, four bachelor’s programs were also recognized for producing topnotchers in recent Professional Regulation Commission licensure exams, namely, BS Medical Technology, BS Accountancy, BS Nutrition and Dietetics, and BS Architecture.

UST also won an award for the community outreach/extension program contest. The College of Science bagged Second Prize for “CCHEERS听to Laudato si: Care for our Common 探花精选 through Environmental Expedition Integrating the role of Service-Learning.”

Thomasian professors were also recognized by PACUCOA. Graduate School academic staff Lucila O. Bance, PhD was named Outstanding Accreditor, while Dean Emeritus Carmen Kanapi, PhD received a Posthumous Award for Service. Service awards were also received by Graduate School academic staff Belen Tangco, PhD (Accrediting Team Chairman), as well as Faculty of Pharmacy officials Aleth Therese L. Dacanay, PhD, Frieda Z. Hapan, PhD, and Edilberto P. Manahan, PhD.

In the recently concluded September-October 2023 Certified Public Accountant Licensure Exams (CPALE), Mark Johnrei J. Gandia, CPA posted an 89.83% rating to claim the 4th place, while Joseph Angelo B. Ogrimen, CPA placed 8th with his 88.83% rating.

Meanwhile, the University produced 213 new Thomasian CPAs and posted a 76.90% overall rating, higher than its 59.47% rating in the May 2023 licensure exams. The national passing rate, which the University surpassed, is 31.37%.

From May 2-4, 2023, the 探花精选 was the site of the 326th Programme Assessment conducted by the ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance. The assessment, which was the first onsite assessment of UST since the pandemic, was geared toward the re-certification of the first four programs to receive AUN-QA鈥檚 stamp of approval: BS Accountancy, BS Biology (now with specializations in Environmental Biology, Industrial Biology, and Medical Biology), BS Chemistry, and BS Psychology.

The assessment team was led by AUN-QA Training Expert and Chief Assessor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tan Kay Chuan (Lead Assessor, BS Psychology). He was joined by Prof. Dr. Rohaida Mohammad Saat (Lead Assessor, BS Accountancy), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ornsiri Cheunsuang (Lead Assessor, BS Biology), Prof. Wan Ahmad Kamil Mahmood, PhD (Lead Assessor, BS Chemistry), Dr. Nguyen Thi Huyen (Assessor, BS Accountancy), Mr. Mean Udam (Assessor, BS Biology), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supitcha Cheevapruk (Assessor, BS Chemistry), and Asst. Prof. Dr. Luerat Anuratpanich (Assessor, BS Psychology).

In their respective messages, Rector fr. Richard G. Ang, O.P., PhD and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Cheryl R. Peralta, DrPH reaffirmed the University鈥檚 commitment to improving its provision of quality Catholic education by submitting to external review from international experts. The assessments, UST鈥檚 7th so far, uses the updated version of the AUN-QA programme assessment tool. The visit included interviews with various stakeholders like students, academic staff, support staff, employers, and alumni, among others, and included site visits and document review.

Chief Assessor Tan, in his wrap-up presentation, invited the University officials to consider the VUCA world鈥檚 challenges and changes. He noted, among others, the increasing impact of artificial intelligence on pedagogy, which he said must keep up with latest technological trends. The assessors likewise cited the University鈥檚 various program strengths, including the functional internal quality assurance systems at the program, college, and university levels, and the positive feedback from different stakeholders. The assessors also presented points for improvement in preparation for a post-pandemic world.

The onsite assessment was held in conjunction with the 13th Assessor Training Workshop of AUN-QA, who provided the training to experts from Brunei Darusallam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

In the recently concluded October 2022 Licensure Examination for Public Accountants (LECPA), Francis Matthew N. Obligacion, CPA emerged as the cream of the crop at 1st rank after scoring a 91% personal rating, while Marion Jasper T. Tagle, CPA landed on the 5th rank with his 88.67% rating.听

Meanwhile, the University produces 269 new Thomasian accountants, posting a 63.90% overall rating, which is above the 25.84% national passing rate. This adds to the growing list of Thomasian CPAs produced by the UST-Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy.

In an released by the Professional Regulation Commission – Board of Accountants, BS-Accountancy alumna Jhoone Cyrelle D. Nacario claimed the 1st place of May 2022 CPA Licensure Exams topnotchers list after posting an 88.83% rating.听

Meanwhile, Charlene Mae N. Perez landed on the 3rd place after tallying an 88% personal rating; Gerimee R. Mappatao placed 8th after posting an 86.67% personal rating; and August Joshua T. Dela Cruz secured the 10th rank with his 86.17% personal rating.

The University likewise produced 73 new Thomasian accountants, posting a 41.24% national passing rate, higher than the national passing rate.

Three faculty members of the UST-Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy presented research papers in the 8th Mid-Year Accounting Teacher鈥檚 International Conference (MYATIC) on March 26, 2022.

Assoc. Prof. Dennis C. Ligan, Ph.D., BS Management Accounting chairperson, presented the paper 鈥淚mpact of Debt Financing on Profitability: The Case of Publicly Listed Philippine Companies in the Real Estate Industry鈥, with Sofia Marie L. Mosquera, John Arden A. Oabel, Leanne Claire C. Oblena, Francis Matthew N. Obligacion, and Sophia Isabelle D. Olalia as co-authors.

Also, the paper 鈥淭racer Study for BS in Management Accounting: The Perspective of the UST-AMV College of Accountancy鈥檚 Management Accounting Graduates on Skills and Competencies Needed for Career Success鈥 was presented by Asst. Prof. Michael M. Dalimot with Rochelle Anne R. Paragas, Hannah Kassandra M. Parrocha, Theresa May M. Panopio, Sofia Mariz L. Rodriguez, and Renato G. Roldan as co-authors.

Finally, Ms. Melba C. Matula presented the paper 鈥淪ustainability Reporting Compliance of Philippine Publicly-Listed Companies in the Finance Industry.鈥 The said paper was co-authored by Kyla Kathryna L. Basid, Jenny F. Belen, Armelle Marie R. Catapang, Precious Anne P. Correa, and Hannah Arianne L. Cuna.

The 8th MYATIC is organized by the National Association of CPAS in Education. This year鈥檚 conference theme was 鈥淟earned Accounting Teachers Thriving Through Reflective Transformation鈥 with Mr. Voravit Janthanakul, president of the ASEAN Federation of Accountants, as the keynote speaker.

Last August 1-7, 2015, Hong Kong Polytechnic University housed the 6th University Scholars Leadership Symposium, hosted by Humanitarian Affairs UK. The sixth installment of the symposium bore the theme 鈥淓nrich. Educate. Enlighten.鈥

The participants鈥 learning journey was comprised of talks and addresses from the Prof. Angelina Yuen, Acting President of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Hon. Matthew Cheung Kin-Chung, Minister for Labor and Welfare of Hong Kong; and Hon. Tony Simpson, Minister for Youth for Western Australia, among others.Facilitators of the program stressed that the scholars had the chance to be 鈥渃hange makers鈥 and by doing so live purposeful lives. This, it was stressed, was complemented by 鈥渢he joy of giving.鈥 As future leaders, participants were made to understand the importance of goal setting and chasing after their dreams.
