Twelve faculty members of the College of Nursing were accredited by TESDA after recognition of their prior learning and review of evidence of community engagement. They were certified as trainers for the caregiving program.

In an interview with College of Nursing Dean Rowena L. Escolar Chua, PhD, she underscored 鈥減eople empowerment and resilence鈥 as core values of the program. Escolar Chua said the program 鈥減rogram provided the opportunity to gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be competent care providers despite their financial and social status. The caregiving program fosters resilience in the face of health challenges. In addition, UST College of Nursing and Caregiving programs partake in the healing ministry of Jesus Christ, our great healer.鈥

The caregiving program is the latest to rolled out by UST and RMI-HFSEC which also had a Bookkeeping course training with the College of Commerce and Business Administration in 2021.

The 探花精选 was hailed as the university with the most accredited programs in the country and in the National Capital Region by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA), during its 50th anniversary celebration on December 1, 2023 (Friday).

Apart from the two distinctions, UST was also recognized for having the most number of Level IV accredited programs in the country. Level IV is the highest rating a program can get. Barely two years into serving as a nurse in the United States of America, a Thomasian alumna joined the league of renowned nurses worldwide who carved their legacy in the healthcare profession. Janina P. Singson-Galangga, RN, a BS-Nursing alumna Class 2006, was honored with the prestigious Florence Nightingale Award for her “exemplary service, exceptional devotion, and a pioneering spirit in caring for our patients”.

Galanggan is one of the 12 recipients across the US in the Titan Division.

In the middle of Galanggan’s duty, in a Facebook on September 14, 2023, the Facility Administrator of their region, LaShon Williams, along with her colleagues set her up to bring her the message of her achievement, which they kept along with her family members for two weeks.

Sometime in 2021, Galangga flew to Hampton, Virginia and filled in a nursing post at DeVita Kidney Care Center, where she was elevated to the position of clinical manager after five months. She worked at the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center and also at a military hospital in Saudi Arabia.

Florence Nightingale, the namesake of the highest distinction given to a nurse, dedicated her life to providing exceptional patient care. During the Crimean war, Nightingale was a manager who trained nurses in treating wounded soldiers. She was also instrumental in leading the advancement of nursing practices and hospital management. Thus, she was hailed as the “Mother of Modern Nursing”.

Meanwhile, Nightingale’s notable legacy resonated in Galangga’s contemporary Thomasian brand of service and such distinction was a fitting tribute to her for imbuing and demonstrating the Thomasian core values overseas.

The UST RCYC-Nursing Unit led by Margaux Gwyneth Lina (President), Diane Ricci Lavadia (External VP), Aleck Hans Ison (Treasurer), and Asst. Prof. Ma. Carina Rebueno (Adviser) won the Best Presenter recognition during the oral presentation for the research entitled “Filipino community dwellers COVID-19 Knowledge, Attitude, Practices and Health Literacy influence on their Pandemic Fatigue: A correlational study” in the 6th International Conference on Translational Medicine and Health Sciences organized by the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Diponegoro in Semarang, Indonesia on October 28 to 29, 2022.

The study described the influence of COVID-19 knowledge, attitude, practices, and health literacy on the level of pandemic fatigue of Filipinos living in the community. Results revealed that Filipinos have a moderate level of pandemic fatigue. COVID 19 attitude negatively influences pandemic fatigue, while knowledge on COVID 19 directly influences health literacy, attitude and practices. Moreover, health literacy affects COVID 19 attitude and practices. Positive attitude and health practices can create measures to prevent pandemic fatigue. Therefore, development of evidence-based programs and measures focusing on enhancing their COVID-19 knowledge and health literacy to change their attitude towards the COVID-19 pandemic will be beneficial in preventing or alleviating pandemic fatigue in the community.

The international conference was participated by students, graduate students, and professionals from different health discipline聽 virtually and in-person from different countries.
