A Level IV program recognized by the FAAP are considered to be 鈥渉ighly respected as very high academic programs in the Philippines and with prestige and authority comparable to similar programs in excellent foreign universities.鈥� The BS PT and BS OT programs have been granted full autonomy and the authority to offer new allied graduate programs and open learning/distance education and extension classes subject to information provided to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

The Tiger Sports Freehub provides 鈥渇ree rehabilitation and strength and conditioning services to all enrolled Thomasian student athletes. The exercise programs are strengthened through interprofessional collaboration among PT, SPS, coaches, and medical doctors. The platforms used are Facebook Page, Facebook Group, and Zoom,鈥� according to Chief Physical Therapist Ken Erbvin R. Sosa, MOH, PTRP, PT. The virtual clinic is also run by Sports Science department supervisors, namely, Gino V. Zapanta, XPS and Kris Anthony T. Agarao, MSHMS.

Thomasian athletes who want to avail of the services may do so by liking the Facebook page of the clinic and joining the Zoom meeting for initial screening. Student interns, under the guidance of their mentors from CRS, will handle the athletes and provide the necessary healthcare services.

The volunteers were part of the Philippine National Teams, workforce, volunteers, and sponsors of the SEA Games. The Philippine Team consists of athletes, sport coaches, and athlete support personnel such as team managers, those working in medical services, sports nutrition and psychology, sport physiology and strength and conditioning departments. These are vital roles in maintaining an athlete鈥檚 overall performance and maintaining their daily needs for competition and training. As part of the SEA Games organizing committee, various functional areas have been established to fully monitor important aspects that make the SEA Games a prestigious international competition.

The Philippine National Anti-Doping Organization is a sub-affiliate of and the country鈥檚 recognized anti-doping organization by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). With the objective to maintain and protect the integrity of sport through doping control and education, this area of the SEA Games organizational committee ensures that athletes complete clean and prevent doping, or the use of banned substances and methods, for performance enhancement in their specific sport. Doping control includes testing for banned substances, assisting athletes with therapeutic use exemption and anti-doping education through an Athlete Outreach Program for all South East Asian participants.

The 30^th South East Asian Games held in various places in Metro Manila was one of Philippine鈥檚 historical sports event hosting, with the Philippines winning overall 1^st place with a total of 149 gold, 117 silver and 119 bronze medals. This biennial meet is one of South East Asia鈥檚 most prestigious sports events, participated by the eleven member nations of South East Asia namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Timor Leste, Thailand, and Vietnam.

CRS has had sustained internationalization efforts for all its four degree programs鈥�,  (accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapy), , and . Student exchanges (both inbound and outbound) are complemented with faculty members receiving degrees and training abroad. The College likewise receives foreign guests from academic institutions for benchmarking and exploration of possible bilateral ties.

The first session took place on October 5, 2019 at Remedios T. Romualdez Memorial Foundation in Tacloban, Leyte. The officials who participated were Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs , DrPH, Dean Anne Marie C. Aseron, MSPT, and they were joined by faculty members Mr. Ivan Neil B. Gomez, PhD, OTRP, Ms. Zyra Mae V. Sicat, MOH, Ms. Catherine Escuadra, MHPEd, Asst. Prof. Christian Rey Rimando, MSPT, and Mr. Mark Angel B. Serra, MOH.

Two sessions were conducted simultaneously on October 13, 2019. The first session saw Dean Aseron, along with faculty members Escuadra, Rimando, and Serra, share CRS鈥� best practices on Internationalization to 14 faculty members of San Pedro College, Davao. Meanwhile, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Peralta, , and Sicat held the cascading session with Universidad de Sta. The seminar-workshop was conducted by Ms. Audrey Michelle Lim and Ms.聽 . Lim, an alumna of the Department of Occupational Therapy, shared her expertise on understanding typical feeding and possible problems related to sensory processing deficits. A certified Sensory Integration Therapist herself, she has been specializing in the assessment and intervention of feeding problems in children with special needs for several years now.聽

Pineda, a faculty member of the and a Certified Nutritionist and Dietitian, shared her expertise on the nutritional requirements of children.聽

The whole day seminar-workshop allowed the 60 pediatric practitioners to understand feeding by analyzing typical feeding development and mechanics of feeding as well as assessing and providing treatment to issues related to structure, behavior, sensory processing and among others through interactive, fun and hands-on activities. Due to insistent public demand, the same seminar-workshop had its second run on September 15, 2019.

During their month-long stay at NUHW, the students were exposed to various training, and research and clinical experiences. On their first week, the students participated in NUHW鈥檚 Interprofessional Education (IPE) training along with other students from Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines. At the end of the IPE training, NUHW President Prof. Masaharu Yamamoto, M.D., Ph.D., conferred upon them the title of IPE Masters.

The succeeding weeks provided the UST-CRS interns with research exposures in the fields of kinesiology, neuroscience and elderly exercise groups, among others. They also had the opportunity for clinical observations in various rehabilitation and health-related settings.

The UST-CRS and NUHW partnership which has been on-going for several years now, has produced fruitful collaborations in the fields of research, and both inbound and outbound student and faculty exchange.

The activity allowed students to attend lecture and laboratory classes in Sports Science courses, based on their interests, as follows: Exercise Physiology, Emergencies in Sports Medicine, Principles of Conditioning Athletes, Basic and Sports Nutrition, Medical Nutrition Therapy, Taping, Fitness Assessment and Exercise Prescription. Students had the opportunity to interact with CBU professors on issues and topics that are of interest to them.

Aside from the regular classes, students went to three (3) core areas: Athletic Training Center (ATC), Athletic Performance Center (APC) and Kinesiology Laboratory, where they were able to observe workouts and training sessions, as well as share their own experiences during their internship and research undertakings. They likewise had the opportunity to watch sports competitions and gain access to the recreational center. The flexibility of the program allowed the students the distinct advantage of tailor-fitting their daily schedule of activities to their line of interest.

Meanwhile, as part of the faculty mobility program of the College, Ms. Pineda had the privilege of having academic discussions with the Department Chair of Health Science, Dr. Sean Sullivan; the Department Chair of Public Health Science, Dr. Robert LaChausse, Vice President for Global Initiatives, Mr. Larry Linamen; the faculty-in-charge for student exchange program, Dr Erik Salley; Program Director of Speech and Language Pathology, Dr. Candace Vickers; and Assistant Professor of Nutrition and Food Sciences and Nutrition Researcher, Dr. Shasha Zheng and other members of CBU Faculty. The discussions centered mainly on future programs and projects such as, possible externship program of speech and language pathology starting 2018, the tentative itinerary for CBU students who are coming to UST in July 2017, and possible collaborations in research.

Being an expert in nutrition, she presented the UST Internship program of CRS-SPS to some CBU faculty with emphasis on how the nutrition component of internship allows interns to apply their knowledge and skills on nutrition principles and strategies to UST athletes participating at the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

The students are accompanied by two faculty members, Jocel Magpili-Regino, MSPT and . This activity is part of on-going student and faculty mobility programs covered by the Memorandum of Understanding between UST and NUHW, signed in 2011.

The UST delegation got the chance to meet Prof. Masaharu Yamamoto, MD, MPH, PhD, President of NUHW. He encouraged students with scientific interests in improving people鈥檚 health to become 鈥渜ualified QOL supporters鈥� with the intent to work worldwide in the future.

In addition to the academic exchange program, this visit is also intended to strengthen research collaborations between NUHW and UST. Ms. Fernandez, together with the PT and SPS students in the group, are engaged in research that will utilize the Vicon Motion Analysis System. They will undergo training with Prof. Masayoshi Kubo, a physical therapist who has extensive experience with motion analysis studies, and who has also been instrumental to the continuing academic and research collaborations between UST and NUHW. This training will be relayed to the other members of the research team in UST and aims to inform the on-going faculty-led, student-assisted researches using this technology.
