International outlook, which accounted for 7.5% of the total score, includes proportion of international students, proportion of international staff, and international collaboration. With a score of 67, this was UST鈥檚 strongest suit, followed by Teaching and Research Quality.

Teaching includes indicators such as teaching reputation, staff-to-student ratio, and doctorate-to-bachelor鈥檚 ratio, among others. Meanwhile, Research Quality credits citation impact, research strength, research excellence, and research influence.

UST鈥檚 recent placement in various authoritative rankings reports, such as the 2024 Quacquarelli-Symonds World (801-850) and Asia University Rankings (175), 2024 Times Higher Education World (1501+) and 2023 Imapct Rankings (601-800), as well as the World University Rankings for Innovation (201-300) were recognized by CHEd.

UST鈥檚 success in ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) was also recognized by CHEd. In an interview with the Communications Bureau, Deputy Director for QS/THE Rankings Nestor R. Ong, ASEAN Engr. noted the increasingly competitive environment of global university rankings, and expressed joy at the good performance of the University in terms of International Faculty Ratio and Employer Reputation. The 2024 World University Rankings of QS incorporated new criteria, such as sustainability, which focuses on a university鈥檚 impact, according to Ong, in terms of 鈥渃harting the course and driving change toward a more sustainable future.鈥� The new International Research Network criterion looks into the international connections the University has made and emphasizes research collaboration across geographical boundaries.

Moving forward, more than 12 years since the University was ranked by QS, the University鈥檚 priorities continue to address research and innovation, intensified global engagement, and enhanced student-centered education. According to Ong, 鈥渁ddressing pressing societal challenges through interdisciplinary research collaborations and technology transfer鈥� is crucial, and 鈥渇orging strategic alliances with universities [to] jointly tackle global issues鈥� is part of the actions the University will take moving forward.

Apart from the QS World University Rankings, UST currently ranks 175th in the Asia University Rankings (2023 edition) and remains 4th in the Philippines. It also enjoys the coveted QS Five Stars rating.

Medicine, biology as top programs in terms of research publications and outputs

Research productivity especially in the fields of Medicine and Biology was recognized by EduRank 2023 for being the highest among the specializations offered by UST. At 586 publications and 15,545 citations, Medicine-related studies ranked highest, followed by BIology, the Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, Psychology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Business, Botany, and Ecology, among others.

EduRank, according to its website and ranking method, uses a database of 44,909,300 scientific publications and 1,237,541,960 citations across 246 research topics. Research performance accounts for 45 percent, while non-academic performance accounts for 45 percent. Alumni score comprises the remaining ten percent.

Noted as the University鈥檚 strengths for this year is internationalization, as UST scored high in outbound exchange (100%), inbound exchange (90.8%), and international faculty (83.7%). Mobility of both students and staff increased substantially during the pandemic, with online technologies being optimized to bridge knowledge-seekers across geographic boundaries.

For Medicine, the University ranked in the 651-670 range. The University received ratings for the H-index citations and citations per paper, and was likewise rated for Employer Reputation and Academic Reputation.

For the last 404 years, UST has been relentless in its pursuit to demonstrate excellence in teaching, research and community service. This is a momentous distinction in the prestigious QS Stars international university ranking.

Second, it told the world what UST was doing. The certificate placed UST side-by-side with the other four-star universities worldwide, and the publicity it generated caused a recent influx of visitors who wish to explore possible linkages with UST.
