Economics Department holds intl webinar on investment, post-pandemic recovery plans

As part of the Faculty of Arts and Letters鈥 (AB) 125th anniversary, the Department of Economics organized the 6th Economic Outlook webinar titled, 鈥淭he Global Outlook: Building a stronger economic partnership with the Philippines through foreign direct investments in major industries and the role of the academe.”
The webinar discussed how foreign investors can forge stronger economic ties with the Philippines through direct investments in major industries and the crucial role of the academe in this matter.


鈥淣ow that we are entering the third year of the pandemic, creating economic recovery and growth after COVID-19 is a direction we are all hoping to take,鈥 said AB Dean Prof. Marilu R. Madrunio, Ph.D., in her opening remarks, adding that 鈥淭he government should be able to anticipate and prepare for public health crises in any form. Thus, economic recovery should be part of the agenda to enable the government to take the road to economic expansion, which affects the education and healthcare domains.鈥


Sharing their valuable insights on how the Philippines can recover from its present slump were three guest speakers, labor economist Dr. Alfredo R. Paloyo of the University of Wollongong, Australia, who tackled 鈥淭he Post-Pandemic Recovery through a Gender Lens鈥; Mr. John Forbes, Senior Advisor of the Arangkada Philippines Project of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, who shared about the 鈥淎rangkada Project and the Future of Foreign Investment in the Philippines鈥; and Mr. Chris Nelson, Executive Director/Trustee of the British Chamber of Commerce Philippines, who discussed 鈥淚nvestment Outlook After a Global Pandemic鈥.
