MOLINA, Ramon Miguel M.

Dr. Molina holds an appointment as Assistant Professor I at the esteemed UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, where he brings his expertise as an internist and adult rheumatologist to the next generation of medical professionals. He is an alumnus of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and College of Science, where he earned his Doctor of Medicine and Bachelor鈥檚 degree, respectively. He is a diplomate and fellow of the Philippine College of Physicians, Philippine Rheumatology Association, and Philippine Society of Critical Care Medicine. He practices his craft in some of Manila鈥檚 leading hospitals, including The Medical City Ortigas, St. Luke’s Medical Center Quezon City, and Asian Hospital and Medical Center Alabang. He is the clerkship coordinator for rheumatology in UST-FMS, the current section head of Rheumatology at Unihealth Southwoods Hospital and Medical Center, and a member of the research committee of the section of critical care medicine at Asian Hospital. He has published and presented locally and internationally on a diverse range of topics, including the intricacies of systemic lupus erythematosus, febrile neutropenia, critical illness polyneuropathy, and the fascinating role of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio in COVID-19 management.

Research Highlights

Dr. Molina’s research focuses on internal medicine and rheumatology, with a particular interest in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and critical care. His work spans basic science investigations to clinical applications, as evidenced by his publications and presentations at local and international conferences. Key Research Areas:

  • SLE and Infections: Dr. Molina has investigated the risk of tuberculosis infection in Filipino SLE patients and also explored the characteristics of gastrointestinal flares in this population.
  • Critical Care: Dr. Molina presented his critical care fellowship research, 鈥淒iagnostic accuracy of single nerve conduction studies in critical illness polyneuropathy: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis鈥 in Singapore during the annual APICS Convention in 2022. Furthermore, he has conducted investigational research on the role of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio as a potential marker for COVID-19 severity.
  • Meta-Analyses: Dr. Molina has expertise in conducting meta-analyses to synthesize evidence from multiple studies, as shown by his work on antibiotic prophylaxis for chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia and the relationship between female hormonal factors and SLE disease activity. Dr. Molina actively shares his research findings through presentations at both local and international conferences, including the Philippine Rheumatology Association Annual Convention and the Asia Pacific Intensive Care Symposium. He has also published his research in reputable journals like the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases and the Philippine Journal of Internal Medicine.
