UST Dept. of English chair advocates for plain language use

探花精选 Department of English Chair Assoc. Prof. Rachelle B. Lintao, Ph.D., delivered a talk titled 鈥淔rom legalese to reader ease: Plain language principles, practices, and prospects鈥 via Zoom and was streamed on the UST Department of English Facebook page on January 15, 2021, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. The lecture was the sixth installment of the Monthly Webinar Series on Forensic Linguistics hosted by the UST Department of English.

Lintao, also serving asProgram Lead of the Graduate School English Language Studies Cluster, highlighted the importance of using plain language in various domains and how it is already adopted in different countries worldwide. She explained the need to take small steps, do research, and promote the benefits of plain language so the lawmakers and business owners can help institutionalize its use. She also mentioned the Department鈥檚 current research project to simplify UST鈥檚 enrollment conform茅.

Almost 700 registrants from 19 different countries attended the webinar. Lawyer and English Department faculty member Selenne Anne S. Leynes acted as Moderator of the Open Forum. 聽
